We are obsessed with idea of the perfect body, and we’re absolutely bombarded online and in the media by pressure to achieve it.
It’s interesting, don’t you think, that the core message in each of the headlines above, is that somehow we’re in pursuit of THE perfect body. As if there’s one achievable fixed goal we can and should all be aiming at, with parameters already decided over the history of time.
What constitutes society’s perfect body?
You don’t have to look far to get the answer. I wish I was lying, but there are even websites out there that have 3D constructed the ‘ultimate woman’ based on some shady (non-linked) research on what men desire. And it’s prevalent for men too. Add ‘male body’ into the same search term, and you’ll get a whole host of “get the perfect male body FAST” and “how to build the perfect male body”. All based on a singular view. Most based on the aim of pleasing the opposite sex. Apparently not a secret at all – because it has been regurgitated across dozens of websites.
So I thought I’d let you in on the real honest secrets of how to achieve ‘the perfect body’:
Don’t let society dictate your perfect
Firstly, let’s start with shape. Whilst you can sculpt your body and lose body fat, and it will ‘change shape’ somewhat due to training, there’s also a certain amount of genetics dictating the shape of your body – your bone structure, your height, for starters. That’s not to say that if you’re ‘curvy’ you’re only ever going to be ‘curvy’ or if you’re ‘skinny’ you’re only ever going to be ‘skinny’. But aiming for a stock image of a nipped, tucked and virtually modified ‘perfect body type’ that looks structurally different in nature to yours is unrealistic and unmotivating.
Don’t go looking for something you already have
Probably the most important point of the whole post. That secret you’re looking for? It’s within you. You have it already. You’re not looking for the secret of ‘the’ perfect body. What you’re looking for is:
1. To feel in control of the way your body looks
2. To feel confident in your own body
Those two fundamentals both revolve around… yep, you guessed it… you. You could spend forever aiming for an idea of what other people deem desirable, and still be unhappy with the changes you’ve made or the way you look. Because it’s about your goal, your ambition, your desires and your requirements for your own health.
So how do you unlock the secret within you?
Know your why
Before you embark on a journey to find the perfect anything, you need to know why you’re doing it. What do you want to achieve? What is the motivation factor behind changing your body?
Instead of looking at other people as a guide, picture how you would like to look and feel in a years time, so that you have something to aim for. It’s helpful to take pictures at the start of your journey, to see your own progress, rather than get caught up in the insta-storm of images of bodies that aren’t yours.
Feed off your own expertise
You know you. Which means you have a whole lifetime’s worth of knowledge about what works for you and what doesn’t work for you. You know what drives you, and you know your weak spots. You can list the foods you hate, and the types of exercise you tend to avoid. This bank of data is your key.
On my ‘Take Control’ programme we use all of this data to your advantage, by making changes in a way that are sustainable because they’re tailored to you. If you’ve had a thing about broccoli since birth, you’re not suddenly going to enjoy it if I bully you into eating it. So just don’t eat it!
Do adaptation your way. It’s a far better way to achieve your own success (and enjoy the process) than searching for information about someone else’s successes and trying to adapt to their process.
Build up your own education
Get equipped with the one of the best tools you can own for progress…education. Gain knowledge on nutrition and learn how to apply it. Be guided through the best fitness plan for you.
One of the most common reasons people don’t get started, is because they don’t know how. It’s fear of embarrassment, of failure, of zero return on your investment. The only way to combat this, is to simply arm yourself with the know-how. After all, they say knowledge is power. And in this case, knowledge = a powerful body.
Honestly, you have the room full secrets within you for points 1, 2 and 3 – you just need the key to unlocking it.
Join up to my ‘Take Control’ programme, and I’ll give you the key. Unlike other health programmes, this one is designed to empower you so that you never have to take another programme.
And now you know the secret, pass it on.
